First-Time Competitors from Chinatown School Earn Top Honors at State Science Fair

In its first-ever participation in a competitive science fair, Pui Tak Christian School (PTCS) has made a remarkable debut. Three middle school students—Caroline. L, Miya. S, and Rachel. P—earned Gold Ratings, the highest honor, at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science (IJAS) State Science Exposition.
The students advanced after a strong showing at the Region 2 Science Fair, where all six PTCS participants earned Gold Awards, and three received the prestigious Award of Excellence Medallion to qualify for state.
At the IJAS State Exposition—featuring over 600 schools and 2,300 student participants across Illinois—PTCS students stood out with projects exploring real-world questions, including reaction time, food safety, and skincare science. All three students were recognized for excellence in scientific design, communication, and research.
“This is an incredible accomplishment, especially in our first year participating. This is what a Pui Tak education looks like—curiosity, discipline, and the courage to explore big ideas.” said science teacher Melody Eng. “Our students demonstrated curiosity, perseverance, and confidence at the highest level.”
The six students earning Gold Awards at regionals were: Micah. H, Samuel. Y, Rachel. P, Loise. L, Caroline. L, and Miya. S. Among them, Rachel. P, Caroline. L, and Miya. S advanced to state.
培德學生首戰州科展勇奪最高榮譽
培德基督教學校(Pui Tak Christian School, PTCS)今年首次參加科學競賽,即創下亮眼成績。三位學生—— Caroline. L、Miya. S 與 Rachel. P 同學——於伊利諾州青少年科學學院(IJAS)州級科學博覽會中榮獲最高榮譽黃金評級(Gold Rating)。
這三位學生在區域第二區科學展中脫穎而出,當時培德學校共有六位參賽學生全數獲得金獎,其中三人更榮獲「卓越獎章」(Award of Excellence),成功晉級州賽。
本次州級科展匯集全州超過 600 所學校、2,300 名學生參與。培德學校學生以探討反應速度、食品安全與皮膚科學等生活化議題的研究,在實驗設計、溝通表達及書面報告方面表現優異,全部榮獲最高評級。
