This year at PTCS’s open house, Ms. Perkins* invited parents to write notes of encouragement for their children to receive throughout the year. The first note was for MAP Testing, which took place early in September.  Joel* was thrilled to read the note his mother had written for him...

Tina* has been with us for many months now.
Until last week, she had never spoken a word in class, as if muted. Years of severe bullying at her former school had left her deeply wounded, voiceless, and afraid to be seen.

Jeremy*, full of dread, shuffled over to a staff member at lunch. With his stomach in knots and tears in his eyes, he sheepishly admitted that he had lost his retainer, for the second time.
And worse yet, he thought it was probably in a garbage can. Just what he needed during the
first week of school.

On the second day of PTCS’s annual staff retreat, still groggy despite a night’s sleep and a big breakfast, we gathered for our morning activity: “speed-friending” with every staff member.
