Hometown: Chicago, IL Family: My parents, who were born and raised in Chinatown. My great grandparents immigrated from Sicily to Chicago’s Chinatown in 1900. Why did you come to work at PTCS? Pui Tak has always held a special place in place in my heart because my neighbors and piano teacher were members of Chinese Christian Union Church (CCUC), the church that has a close relationship with PTCS. They are very good people and exemplify Christian charity. I always admired how CCUC invested quality time with the youth group. So in 2022, after COVID, I came to work as an after school care teacher and a substitute teacher. I feel so blessed to be part of the PTCS school community. The teachers and staff are the best people I have ever worked with. What are your favorite moments with students? I love coming to work everyday and having the privilege to teach such wonderful children.

PTCS Leadership Bonnie Ho Principal Guided by the Hebrew proverb “A child is not a vessel to be filled, but a lamp to be lit,” Bonnie entered the field of education to spark the inner curiosity of children. As Principal of Pui Tak Christian School in Chicago, a school that emphasizes both academic achievement and character building of its students, her greatest desire is to be God’s instrument to impact lives through Christian Education. Besides being the Principal of PTCS, Bonnie also serves on the Board of Directors at Far East Broadcasting Company, U.S.A. Bonnie holds graduate degrees from Concordia University, Moody Theological Seminary, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Prior to her appointment with PTCS, Bonnie served as Director of Children’s Ministry at Chinese Christian Union Church-South and as Board of Director of the Moody Alumni Association. She has received recognition from the Gateways Credential Program and is a Northwestern Kellogg Executive Scholar in Nonprofit Management. Bonnie is married to Dominic Ho and they are the proud parents of Brian Ho.

Board Member Ms. Julia Hui Julia Hui returns to the Chicago community with a lifelong passion for Christian education and a deep-rooted history in church planting and local ministry. A former member of the CCUC-North planting team and a dedicated volunteer at the Yunn Fook Home, Julia brings decades of experience in youth leadership, Sunday School education, and music ministry to her role. After returning to Chicago in 2024, she felt a clear calling to serve at PTCS, recognizing the school as a vital mission field for the Chinatown community. Julia is firmly committed to the school’s vision of providing a Christ-centered environment during the critical formative years of elementary and middle school. Her goal as a board member is to help students build a lasting biblical worldview while extending God’s love to their families and the broader community.

Why did you come to work at PTCS? I have chosen to work at Pui Tak Christian School because of its clear vision to serve and equip children for success in all areas of life. I deeply value the school’s commitment to nurturing students not only in their academic growth, but also in their spiritual development and character formation, grounded in Christ-centered principles. What do you enjoy most about teaching ? I enjoy helping students with homework and Bible studies, and I find great joy in sharing God’s love and faithfulness through examples from Scripture. What are your favorite moments with students? My favorite moments with students are during playful and interactive times, like dodgeball in gym class, where I often end up alone being chased by all the children—it’s always full of laughter and energy. I also love when they ask me silly riddles and enjoy seeing their excitement when I don’t know the answer. These moments, big or small, create joyful memories and strengthen the bond I share with them.

I have been teaching in a Chicago public school for eight years. I wanted to start teaching at a Christian school to share Jesus' teachings and love with my students. God opened an opportunity for me to join the PTCS family, so I am very excited to participate in it! What do you enjoy most about teaching? I enjoy getting to know my students' personalities and creating relationships with them and their families. I love being a part of their learning growth and celebrating their success! What are your favorite moments with students? There are too many favorite moments with students, but one of my favorite ones is when I see and hear students start teaching a skill to others. I also have an older brother who lives with his wife and my nephew in Japan! Why did you come to work at PTCS? I believe strongly in the value of Christian education. I attended a Christian elementary school and know the foundations built there have been instrumental in my own life. I have also been interested in Chinese culture and language for a long time. Pui Tak Christian School is a great fit for me! What do you enjoy most about teaching? What I enjoy most about teaching is that no two days are ever the same. Students are always learning and growing. It’s amazing to watch their progress over the school year. What are your favorite moments with students? My two favorite kinds of moments with students are when they overcome challenges and when they are genuinely amazed by something in the class like an interesting science experiment. I love witnessing joy in learning.

What do you enjoy most about working at PTCS? I most enjoy building relationships with the students and helping them find their drive and passion through education. What are your favorite moments with students? One of my favorite moments with my students was finishing an entire book, Charlotte's Web, together as a class, because it came with a great sense of achievement and joy to finish something as a community.
