Q & A on PTCS Temporary Closure (Elementary & Preschool)

1. With the school closures, will the same off days apply that were already on the calendar such as (Spring Break and Parent/Teacher conferences)?

 

During school closure, the off dates on the school calendar will apply. There will be no e-learning during Spring Break, on Teacher Institute Day nor Parent/Teacher Conference Day. ​​

2. I understand that elementary students will have to log on at 8:20 and 1:30, but will other computer time be needed?

 

Elementary students are expected to learn from their teachers online from 8:30 AM until 2:00 PM except for a half-hour lunch break and short brain breaks throughout the day.

 

3. Can my child be provided with a laptop?

 

PTCS has a limited number of Chromebooks for students who absolutely have no other means to access a laptop or a desktop computer. Students who do not have any device to participate in e-learning may borrow a Chromebook from PTCS at a one-time (Non-refundable) cost of $20.00, which is a maintenance fee.  There will also be an additional $100.00 deposit at check out for each Chromebook. This $100 deposit will be refunded when the Chromebook is returned to PTCS.   To receive the $100.00 refund, the Chromebook must be returned on the first-day classes are resumed at the Pui Tak Christian School campus; and that the Chromebook must be returned in good and operable condition.   If there is any damage to the Chromebook, the $100.00 deposit will be forfeited.

Due to the limited number of Chromebooks on hand, they will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. If you need to borrow a Chromebook, please contact Mr. Fabian Ocampo, the School Office Manager to make the arrangement.

4. It’s presumed that enrichment classes are suspended. Will there be a credit applied to next year's enrichment classes?

All school activities are canceled until school resumes after the Easter break on April 14th. There will not be any Before and Afterschool Program, including tutoring and enrichment classes during school closure. Credit will be applied to future enrichment classes if you have already paid for the classes.

4. 現階段的課後興趣班也取消了,那麼之前付的興趣班費用會轉到明年的興趣班嗎?

所有的學校活動暫時取消至復活節假期後,4月14日。校舍在關閉期間將不再有輔導、興趣班等任何課前或課後的項目。若您已經付了興趣班的相關費用,那麼這筆費用將被轉至下一學年的興趣班使用。

Q & A on Preschool e-learning

學前班線上學習問題解答

1. Will it be a video conference?

 

The teacher will be teaching via the G-suite Hangout platform,  kind of like video conferencing. ​​

2. Would online attendance be needed next week?

 

Online attendance for preschool will be needed starting Tuesday, March 17th.

Preschool teachers will need a few hours in the morning to do the final preparations, your child’s teacher and Mrs. Bonnie Ho will be meeting with you via Hangout. Please be on the lookout for your child’s teacher’s invitation Monday morning.  The Hangout meeting is scheduled for 12:00 noon. You can join the meeting from anywhere you might be if you have access to a laptop or a computer and an internet connection. The purpose of this meeting is to walk parents through the steps and expectations of e-learning for preschool children. Unlike the elementary students, preschoolers will need parental assistance with e-learning.

 

3. Is there an alternative if the student cannot be online every day at 9:00 A.M.? If students are with grandparents during the day and the grandparents are technologically challenged, what happens?

 

E-learning for preschoolers is shorter than e-learning for elementary students. If students are not able to join the “live broadcast” of the e-lessons at 9:00 A.M., they can learn from the recorded lessons, however, only the students who are online at 9:00 A.M. would be able to interact with their teachers and classmates.  Students who are watching recorded lessons cannot interact with their teachers and classmates. All major lessons will be recorded and parents will have access to them. If your child misses the live broadcast, please be sure to play the recorded lesson and help your child to follow along. Students are to finish all daily learning activities and turn in their classwork and homework on Mondays.

4. If a preschool child cannot join a live session, how is their attendance going to be counted?

If your child is not able to join the live sessions, please take pictures of your child learning and doing school work and send the pictures to the child’s teachers. You can also videotape your child's learning activity if you like. The important thing is to make sure preschoolers are actively and continuously learning.

5. What time can I pick up the learning packet?

In an outdated email from March 13, the school released info about learning packet pick-up and drop-off.

The school has eliminated pick-up and drop-off of student work packets, in light of more recent developments. Everything will be done electronically, effective March 16th. Your child's teacher will give you instructions on how to do that.

學前部學生的線上學習和小學部相比時間較短。若學生無法在九點加入線上的“直播”,他們可以在之後通過已錄製的課程進行學習。但是只有在早上九點登錄的學生才可以跟老師和同學進行互動。觀看錄製課程的學生將無法和老師或同學進行互動。所有主要的課程都會被錄製下來,以供家長隨時查看。若您的孩子錯過了線上直播,請讓您的孩子觀看錄製課程,並幫助您的孩子跟隨課程進度。學生需要完成每日學習內容並於每週一上交作業。

4. 若學前部的孩子無法參與線上實時課程,那他們考勤將如何計算呢?

若您學前部的孩子無法加入線上的實時課程,請在您的孩子學習及做作業的時候照下照片,並發給您孩子的老師。您也可以在學生做活動的時候錄成視頻。重點是確保學前部的學生在積極的學習。

5. 我何時可以拿到學習包(learning packet)?

在3月13日的電子郵件中,學校發布了有關領取和歸還學習材料的信息。

然而,在最新的更新中,學校取消了學生學習材料的遞送。從3月16日起,一切學習將以電子方式進行。您孩子的老師會為您提供相關操作方法的說明。
