Homework Policy We believe homework is a meaningful and integral part of the total academic program. Purposes of Homework To instill a greater love for lifelong learning To reinforce and enrich newly acquired skills and knowledge taught in the classroom To instill and promote competency in skills and subject matters To help students to learn time management Integrate learning by extending assignments that require students to apply previous learning skills Encourage and enhance students to use various sources of information to do research on short and long term project Encourage students to pursue personal interests outside the classroom such as music, art and crafts, sports, and so forth Guidelines No homework assignment is given until the teacher covers the skills or content Students will receive clear directions with clarifying examples Students are allowed an opportunity to ask questions before they are expected to complete any assignment It is the student's responsibility that all required homework is completedd and turned in on the designated date Most homework assignments are monitored, evaluated or commented by the teacher and returned to the students for feedback or corrections Duration (Includes time spent reading) Kindergarten: 1/2 hr – 1 hr (includes adult reading to the student) Grade 1: 1 hr – 1.5 hrs Grade 2: 1.5hrs – 2 hrs Grades 3 & 4: 2 hrs – 2 ½ hrs Grades 5 - 8: 2 ½ hrs - 3 hrs Homework will be assigned 5 times a week Special Education As a private school, PTCS has limited access to instructional and vocational programs for students who are eligible for special education services. If your child is in need of special education services, please contact the PTCS administration in order to determine if PTCS is the best placement for your child. Students with special needs will be admitted on a case-by-base basis.
